LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
A family's fears about an alleged kidnapper getting out of jail are put to rest at least for now.
Friday, William Paul Morgan allegedly kidnapped his estranged, pregnant wife, 36 year old Loren Morgan and held her at gunpoint for seven hours.
The family was terrified Paul Morgan would get out due to the $100,000 bond set by Judge Wilford Carter. The case is now assigned to Judge Mike Canaday who set bond at $850,000 as requested by District Attorney John DeRosier. "The victim and her family are certainly concerned that if this defendant is allowed to get out of jail that he may well repeat this knowing now that he has the Texas incident to contend with. He has the pending charges in Louisiana as a result of what he's already done that could result in significant prison time."
We received word Morgan's bond for a felony theft charge in Texas has been revoked, which means if he tries to bond out here he could be returned to Texas.
If Morgan does raise the money to bond out here, he would first have to go before Judge Canaday, who would set forth conditions of his release. Attorney Jenifer Cummings says the family is happy with the increased bond and hopeful Morgan will remain in jail.
