The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:
On December 6th approximately 7:00 p.m., Cpl. Kevin Hoover with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) conducted a stop on a car bearing New York license plate traveling east on I-10 for a traffic violation near mile marker 19.
When Cpl. Hoover spoke with the driver, Jeffrey R. Rodriguez, 20, of Bay Shore, New York, he began to act suspiciously. After receiving consent from Rodriguez, Cpl. Hoover conducted a search of the car, recovering over 30 pounds of hydro marijuana in two large suit cases in the trunk, with an estimated street value of over $350,000. "Hydro" is a high grade marijuana grown by using hydroponics, which is the practice of growing plants in either a bath or flow of highly oxygenated, nutrient enriched water, instead of in soil. This process creates a genetically superior plant with a higher THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) level, therefore increasing the value.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
