(RNN) - If you're wondering where all your guests have gone to celebrate the day after Christmas, you probably don't need to look further than your nearest shopping outlet.
With the holiday season winding down, stores are expecting a surge of customers as shoppers help clear out 2011 merchandise, exchange gifts and redeem gift cards on what has been dubbed "Mega Monday."
Dec. 26 is expected to be the third biggest shopping day of the year, helped along by bargain hunters picking through deep discounts at stores across the country and the massive number of gift cards traditionally cashed in the day after Christmas.
Target, Wal-Mart and Kmart will be offering 50 percent off Christmas goods, toys and seasonal decor for the forward thinking shopper while also slashing prices on clothing. Brooks Brothers is offering up to 60 percent discounts on purchases while Williams-Sonoma offers up to 50 percent off on seasonal goods. Even Bass Pro Shops is offering a sale for the week after Christmas.
Luckily for would-be shoppers bloated from one too many scoops of mashed potatoes, the sales aren't only available in stores.
Online-only retailers like Amazon.com and Overstock.com are offering end of the year deals for frugal consumers. Amazon, arguably the king of online retailers, is offering up to 70 percent off jewelry, cell phones and shoes, among other things.
Overstock is offering goods for anywhere from 10 to 45 percent off their already discounted goods. For the sadomasochist in all of us, the WWE shop is also offering up to 80 percent off their merchandise.
The National Retail Federation has predicted that holiday spending this year will be up 3.8 percent to $469.1 billion.
