LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -
Southwest Louisiana has a new Miss Mardi Gras. Courtney Nicole Priola was crowned Miss Mardi Gras Southwest Louisiana 2012 Saturday night at the Lake Charles Civic Center's Rosa Hart Theater.
Priola competed against six other young ladies for the crown. She is a native of Lacassine and currently attending McNeese State University majoring in Nursing. Priola has competed in several pageants over the last several years and was a past Miss Bunny. She said she competed in the Miss Mardi Gras Southwest Louisiana pageant two years ago and always wanted to wear the crown.
"This is so unexpected. It was exciting to have my family and friends there when I was crowned. Any of those girls would have represented Southwest Louisiana well. I'm just glad to wear the crown," said Priola. "Mardi Gras is known world-wide and it's an honor to be able to represent Southwest Louisiana and let people know what we have to offer here. I'm also excited to represent SWLA in Washington D.C. at the Mardi Gras festivities there. I'm looking forward to a fun year."
