An armed robbery suspect shot to death in Biloxi by police was a person of interest in a Louisiana murder. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove identified the man as Carl L. Wise, 56, of Scottsdale, AZ. Hargrove said Wise died in surgery from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Michael Lafrance said Wise was wanted in connection with a murder committed on Friday, the day before he allegedly held up two businesses in D'Iberville. Plaquemines detectives said while investigating the murder of 72-year-old James Jones they found out Wise, a former coworker, had been in area asking former coworkers for money. Detectives further learned that Wise possibly had a drug problem. Sources told investigators Wise had left the area and was heading toward the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
On Saturday evening, one of Wise's family members in Arizona notified Plaquemines Parish detectives that Wise had been killed by police in the Biloxi. Detectives then contacted Mississippi authorities and learned that Wise was a suspect in two armed robberies and lead police on a high speed chase.
Plaquemines Parish detectives are in Biloxi working with authorities there to obtain any evidence that could link Wise to the murder.
