LSU Softball set for Saturday’s Inaugural Fan Day

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball program will play host to its inaugural fan day Saturday at Tiger Park. Festivities are slated to get underway at 3 p.m. and admission is free. Seating is based on a first-come, first-serve basis with gates slated to open at 2:30 p.m.

Fans will get a first glimpse at the team's 2012 intro video and new player uniforms. It also will be the first opportunity to pick up the 2012 poster.

Season tickets are on-sale at fan day for $75. A special promotional item will be given to each new account holder that purchases season tickets while at Saturday's event. LSU's home schedule features 2011 NCAA Tournament foes Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Penn State.

"Our players and our staff are extremely excited for Saturday," head coach Beth Torina said. "We have so many wonderful things in store for our amazing fan base. With each day that passes, the players are continuing to work hard at practice, and the anticipation grows for opening weekend."

Six players will be broken up into two teams and compete in a home run derby. Rikki Alcaraz, Ashleigh Kuhn and Tammy Wray will represent the underclassmen, while Ashley Langoni, Heidi Pizer and Morgan Russell will compete for the senior class.

The Tiger pitching staff of Rachele Fico, Brittany Mack and Meghan Patterson also will participate in a skills challenge. A few football players from the 2011 SEC Championship team are scheduled to appear and take swings off of Mack at the plate.

In between the home run derby and pitching skills challenge, the infield and outfield will square off in a "Dance Off" on the field. Team Outfield consists of A.J. Andrews, Jacee Blades, Alex Boulet, Katie Guillory and Simone Heyward. They will take on Lauren Houston, Heidi Pizer, Juliana Santos, Dylan Supak and Cassie Trosclair from Team Infield.

Following the event, the entire 2012 softball team will be available for autographs on the Tiger Park Concourse. Fans are encouraged to follow LSU softball on Facebook and @lsu_softball via Twitter for fan day updates in case of inclement weather.

LSU is eight days away from opening the 2012 campaign and playing host to the Tiger Classic. The Tigers usher in the next chapter of their storied history under first-year coach Beth Torina on February 10 versus Penn State. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. from Tiger Park. LSU also has match-ups slated against No. 15 Michigan and Louisiana Tech on opening weekend.
