The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:
At approximately 2 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, a Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a car in the area of Highway 3059 and Yvonne Street in Lake Charles for a traffic violation.
When the deputy spoke with the driver of the car, Ricky Martinez, 42, of Houston, Texas, he began to act suspiciously. After the deputy asked for permission to search the car and Martinez refused, a CPSO K9 Unit was dispatched to the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the car.
After searching the car, deputies located approximately 10 plastic bags containing crystal meth totaling approximately 400 grams and over $6,000 in cash.
Martinez was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute CDS II (methamphetamine).
Judge Wilford Carter set his bond at $25,000.
