ADDIS, LA (WAFB) -
Disturbing cell phone video depicting a brutal fight that ultimately
killed a Plaquemine man has left relatives with more questions than
answers.
West Baton Rouge detectives charged Charles "Ray" Burton
in connection with the death of 26-year-old Robert "Bobby" Crowe. But
Crowe's family believes more than one person is responsible.
Detectives
confirmed what his stepmother, Gwen Crowe, says she feared from the
moment she learned a trucker found a man's body face down in a ditch off
of LA Highway 1 in Plaquemine.
"It's hard to think did he suffer? Was he in that ditch? Was he still alive and hurting?" Crowe asked.
The
video shows a fight between Bobby Crowe and Burton. Burton is on top of
Bobby, delivering blow after blow to his head. A girl eventually tried
to kick Burton off of him. But Burton stops only after a guy witnessing
the fight says "Ray, that's good." Bobby struggles to stand up.
Bobby Crowe's sister, Jessica Vaughn, believes the fight was just one of a few incidents that led to her brother's death.
"He
was still alive after that. He didn't beat him to death. He might have
caused some head injury, swelling, bleeding in the brain. I don't know.
It's killing me. I just don't know," Crowe said.
West Baton Rouge
Sheriff Mike Cazes confirms his investigators got the video Monday
night and interviewed 27 people in connection with the incident. Burton
was charged with manslaughter. Vaughn believes her brother and Burton
were fighting over a girl. But Bobby's relatives are convinced more
people are responsible for his death.
"I'm thinking there should be more arrests made because why didn't someone stop the fight instead of egging it on," Crowe said.
Bobby's
relatives believe someone dumped his body in the ditch and left him to
die. They say it is a mystery they hope detectives will soon uncover.
Sheriff
Cazes says he believes Crowe was walking home when he succumbed to his
injuries. That would mean Crowe walked five miles before he made it to
the ditch. But the sheriff says the case is still open and investigators
are still interviewing witnesses.
